If you have recently received a notification from Social Security regarding "CNAE25 Activity Code Update", we inform you that it is necessary to review and, if applicable, update the CNAE code corresponding to your activity before the next June 30, 2025.
In 2025, the new National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE-2025), which replaces the current CNAE-2009, will come into effect. This update affects all registered self-employed workers, and it will be mandatory to report the activity according to the new list from the personal area of Importass, since there is no direct equivalence between the previous codes and the new ones.
The new CNAE-2025 systembegan to be applied on January 16, 2025, following its official publication in the BOE on January 15. This update aims to reflect the profound changes that the economy has experienced since 2009, incorporating advances in technology, science, and economic structure.
Most relevant changes of CNAE-2025
Integration of sustainable activities
Se incluyen nuevas áreas relacionadas con la economía circular, las energías limpias and other sectors focused on environmental sustainability.
Recognition of digital transformation
The classification now includes sectors that have emerged or evolved with the digitalization and globalization, such as digital services or new technologies.
International harmonization
The CNAE-2025 is designed to align with international classifications NACE Rev. 2.1(European) and CIIU Rev. 5 (from the UN), thus facilitating data comparison and use in official statistics.
Transitional stage
During an adaptation period, the CNAE-2009 and CNAE-2025 will coexist, until all legislation and systems are fully updated.
What should companies do?
Companies registered before January 16, 2025
have until June 30, 2025 to update their activity codes according to the new classification.
New registrations from January 16
must directly use the CNAE-2025 at the time of registration.
During the transition period
it will be necessary to manage both classifications (2009 and 2025) to maintain consistency in records and procedures.
